BOULDER, Colo. - Feb. 8, 2015 - PRLog -- Boulder, CO February 3, 2015- Black Dog LED (BDL) has recently published a paper featuring first-of-its-kind research on how artificial grow light spectrums affect leaf surface temperature and therefore plant growth.

The research demonstrates how a plant-optimized lighting spectrum as provided by Black Dog LED grow lights don’t heat up plants’ leaves as other forms of artificial grow lights, including fluorescent, MH, HPS and even white LEDs do.

Experimental results show that leaf surface temperature under BDL lights was 10 degrees cooler than leaves under the HPS lights under otherwise identical conditions. Because of this, the ambient air temperature in the growing area must be higher to achieve ideal leaf surface temperature when growing under Black Dog LED grow lights.

This is good news for the majority of growers who have to incur the cost of cooling their grow room. When growing with Black Dog LED lights the need to ventilate or cool a growing area is greatly diminished.

“As with most indoor growers, excess heat is one of the most common issues I have to deal with. While designing Black Dog LED grow lights and optimizing them for plants, one of the unexpected benefits I found was that the warmer ambient air temperature required saved me money in cooling equipment size and operating costs,” says Corey Drew, owner/founder of Black Dog LED.

Black Dog LED is excited to share this research with the indoor growing community as part of their mission to help plants grow better, and for growers to be able to fully leverage new LED grow light technology to maximize yields.
