BORDEAUX, France - Feb. 6, 2015 - PRLog -- Weather forecasters in southwestern France are calling it a “snowpocalypse,” says online weather brokerage firm WeatherWin.com. Forecasters have issued severe weather forecasts and have urged motorists to operate with caution.

French weather agency Météo France announced severe weather in fifteen possible departments in southwestern and south France. They also said extreme danger was possible due to heavy snow and dangerous black ice. “As weather experts ourselves, we also urge the public to be very cautious in times like these,” says WeatherWin.com.

The blizzards come after one and a half meters of snow capping the Pyrénées from over the weekend, which ironically turned out to be too much fluff for the avid skiers of the area.

Access to slopes and surrounding areas at a handful of top ski resorts, including La Pierre Saint Martin, Gourette and Artouste were closed.

The agency also announced a “maximum” avalanche advisory for Gourette, which was released Monday morning. Gourette witnesses experienced an avalanche of “exceptional” proportions on Sunday.

We are continuing to follow new developments in France as the story unfolds. Meanwhile, French social media users have taken to Twitter in a flurry of snaps from the weekend cold snap.
