Follow on Google News | Groundbreaking Event Gives Teen Athletes Keys to Preventing Concussion, ACL Injury And MoreGirlFest! to educate and encourage high school girls to “Be Strong, Be Smart, Dream Big.”
“One of the greatest predictors of injury is previous injury, and since the rate of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) rupture is three times higher in female versus male athletes, and the repercussions of concussion appear to be more severe and long-lasting in female athletes versus their male peers, taking deliberate steps toward injury prevention and smart management of injury is imperative for girls to enjoy optimal performance and longevity in their athletic endeavors,” says physical therapist Jessica McKinney, Director, Center for Pelvic and Women's Health at Marathon Physical Therapy. She also points out that pelvic health issues, such as menstrual irregularities and urine leakage, are increasingly common in this population, but they go unrecognized or untreated due to stigma or general lack of knowledge. “Marathon’ Refreshments will be served, and Marathon’s professional staff will demonstrate effective exercises, and address ACL injury prevention, concussion, female athlete triad, nutrition, pelvic health, and healthy posture—making this a valuable, educational experience for any teenage girl who participates in sports, dance, or any other physical pursuits. GirlFest! will take place Thursday, March 12 from 6-9pm at Velocity Sports Performance, 111 Morgan Dr, Norwood, MA 02062. Reserve your free spot today at http://www.marathonphysicaltherapy.com/ End
