Follow on Google News | First Milestone Met To Bring Florida’s First Naval Warship Museum To JacksonvilleBy: USS Adams The JHNSA met the first $10,000 milestone through a Crowdrise online initiative. The Crowdrise campaign allows community supporters of America’s veterans and their families to contribute to the effort that will bring the ship to Jacksonville, fund its restoration, and open the warship museum on the banks of the St. Johns River in downtown Jacksonville. City Councilman and candidate for Jacksonville Mayor, Bill Bishop, an early advocate of the project, says he expects the people of Jacksonville will continue to show their support to bring the world-class attraction to the city. “We are a community made up of people who take great pride in our beautiful city and, through our donations so far, have made it clear that we are determined to put Jacksonville, Florida on the map as a city that supports its military and freedom-loving people around the world. Every donation, from every man, woman and child in Northeast Florida represents a pledge to our military men and women; a pledge to creating a one-of-a-kind entertainment and education venue in the heart of city, and a pledge to an even more vibrant future for Jacksonville.” Once in operation, the USS Adams Museum will serve as a self-sustaining salute to honor America’s military veterans, inspire and educate the youth of Jacksonville, and draw tens of thousands of visitors to the downtown area each year. The USS Charles F. Adams (DDG-2) was the first guided missile destroyer built from the keel up by the U.S. Navy and revolutionized naval warfare. Northeast Florida’s Naval Station Mayport was the homeport for the now historic ship for 21 of her 30 years of service.
