“Our goal is to re-introduce these mavericks to the world to ensure that their efforts are not forgotten.  We hope it will inspire our generation to step up and make their mark in positive, substantive way,” states Nicole McGruder, one of Continued Pathways’ founders.

Ellis McGruder, co-founder of Continued Pathways is a native of Pittsburgh, PA and he understands the rich civil rights history of this great city.  Because of his strong admiration and respect of his hometown, this year’s honorees have been selected from those who have been memorialized in Pittsburgh’s Freedom Corner.

Ellis McGruder emphasizes that “…without the efforts of these great men and women, life would be fraught with even more challenges for African Americans and other minorities in this country.  Some of the demonstrations held by these heroes either started on ended at the symbolic Freedom Corner, which is why we thought it was fitting to focus this year’s tribute to those that were connected to this symbolic location in Pittsburgh.”    Freedom Corner is located at the intersection of Centre Avenue and Crawford Street; and for over forty years, it has been a rally hub for protests, marches, and demonstrations that focus on civil rights and racial justice.

Continued Pathways is proud to put on this series during Black History month and looks forward to making this an annual tradition.

Husband and wife, Ellis and Nicole McGruder, founded this non-profit in 2014.  Continued Pathways helps the unemployed and underemployed find sustainable work and encourages civic leadership through online resources, webinars, and collaborations with other non-profits,
