NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Jan. 31, 2015 - PRLog -- Naperville teacher and resident Brian South has self-published a novel to use the experience as a teaching tool. He is coaching interested students, some of whom have begun their own publishing endeavors, by sharing the advantages and disadvantages of taking the indie publishing route compared to the traditional method of publishing. South included students in much of his publishing decision-making, including soliciting input on possible cover artwork, layout, and marketing ideas.

South, an English teacher at Naperville North High School and an adjunct professor at the College of DuPage, leveraged his Master’s degree in Writing and Publishing from DePaul University to navigate the self-publishing process. Many students have expressed optimism that if someone they know can successfully self-publish, perhaps they can too.

Students also connect with South’s book because of his comedic treatment of a normally dramatic subject and, of course, because of his use of zombies. The Zombie Sheriff Takes Tucson: A Love Story is a comedic horror/Western novel that tells an absurd, tongue-through-cheek tale of reanimated cowboys, undying love, and the lengths to which one zombie will go for justice. And for brains. The book will be released in both print and digital forms on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iTunes, and other retailers on February 20th, 2015. For more information, visit
