ATLANTA - Jan. 30, 2015 - PRLog -- On Sunday, February 1, one of the segments on the national CBS Sunday Morning program will feature Park Springs (http://www.parksprings.com), the luxury retirement community in Stone Mountain. The spotlight will be on Marvin Himmel (91) and his Park Springs troupe of more than 60 Members who performed Mr. Himmel’s ‘Forever Young, For Evermore’ show to sold-out audiences during four nights in November 2014.

The CBS Sunday Morning feature is moderated by Bill Geist and directed by David Rothman, who with his crew visited Park Springs a number of times during the 2014 rehearsal and development period and shot 25 hours of material to build this story.

Twice-weekly rehearsals of the show started in September 2014 in order to be ready for the November Dinner Theater show. More than 60 Park Springs Members, including performers, dancers, and a technical crew in charge of lighting, costumes, scenery and props participated.

This is the eighth show created, directed and produced by the charismatic and energetic Mr. Himmel since he moved to Park Springs in 2004. He has been in show business all his life. At 9 years old, he started doing radio work and worked on kids’ shows like Skippy, Jack Armstrong, Little Orphan Annie, and Sky King.

At 13, he was asked to join the touring company of ‘Dead End’ by Sidney Kingsley, and was on the road for six months, “…a great learning experience!” according to Mr. Himmel.

During WWII, Mr. Himmel served in the Air Corps. He requested to be an aerial gunner, but was put in Special Services because of his radio experience, and ended up running an Officers’ Club and NCO Club in Lincoln, Nebraska. For a while, Mr. Himmel was part of the 3 Make Believes, an entertainment trio that also included Phil Erickson, who later started the Wit’s End Theater in Atlanta.

“We designed Park Springs to be a true community for our Members. Marvin Himmel’s annual show is a great example of how our Members combine their creative and artistic energies, and enjoy life to the fullest,” says Kevin Isakson, Director of Sales and Marketing with Isakson Living (http://www.isaksonliving.com), the owner and operator of Park Springs.

“At Park Springs, they can pursue activities that they might not have explored before, and our staff does everything possible to create and accommodate these opportunities. Members can perform, sing, and travel together, study, garden, volunteer, play sports, work out and lead clubs and committees,” notes Isakson.

“We are delighted that when CBS Sunday Morning is broadcast on Sunday, February 1, the whole country gets a glimpse of what it would be like to live at Park Springs.”
