Get What You Need Out of a Compact with the Mercedes GLK

The Mercedes GLK is the compact version of the GL. As with all Mercedes vehicles, it delivers on the comfort and ease of use for which the company is known.

SALEM, Ore. - Jan. 29, 2015 - PRLog -- The sport utility vehicle, or SUV, is highly popular among those who desire the towing and off-road capabilities of this type of vehicle. The Mercedes-Benz GLK fulfills all the needs of the SUV-lover and caters to the luxury vehicle enthusiast as well. The GLK is a crossover SUV and is designed to provide the characteristics of an SUV with the elegance of a luxury car.

The GLK first went on sale in late 2008 following its debut at the Beijing Auto Show. GLK is an acronym for the title Gelandewagen Luxus Kompaktklasse. The name is derived from the larger Mercedes-Benz GL, which comes from the G-Class. The GL is the luxury version of the G-Class, with the GLK being the compact version of the GL. The GLK-Class will be renamed the GLC-Class after 2015 in accordance with Mercedes’ new naming system.

The Mercedes GLK of 2015 continues to maintain the luxury line of this legendary company. The redesigned GLK includes a fresh take on the interior of the car. A beautifully designed dash encloses a brightly-lit, well-sized LCD display in a strategic position. The controls are thoughtfully placed and easy to adjust. Passengers of all sizes find the interior of the GLK comfortable and inviting, with ample room for tall drivers.

The cargo area for the Mercedes GLK provides 23.3 cubic feet of space with the rear passenger seats in the upright position. If the seats are folded down, cargo space is more than doubled at 54.7 cubic feet.

The gasoline version is a 3.5L V6 with a combined fuel economy rating of 21 miles per gallon. The engine is capable of accelerating from zero- to 60-miles-per-hour in 6.5 seconds. A seven-speed, paddle-shift automatic transmission completes the powertrain for the gasoline version.

The BlueTEC turbodiesel version features a fuel economy rating of 28 miles per gallon. As with the gas engine, the diesel engine is operated by a seven-speed automatic transmission. At eight seconds, the acceleration time for the diesel engine is a little longer than the gas engine. The diesel engine features a barely noticeable turbo lag and is capable of exceeding its fuel economy rating.

The interior of the GLK is worthy of the Mercedes name with the newly released mbrace2 connectivity suite, soft-touch controls, a Harman Kardon stereo system, Bluetooth integration, parallel parking assist and the Mercedes COMAND system. What more could you desire in a compact luxury SUV? The GLK combines luxury with usefulness in one car, providing consumers with a vehicle they can trust.
