2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships Take Over the Slopes of the Vail Valley

VAIL, Colo. - Jan. 29, 2015 - PRLog -- The tradition of alpine ski racing has been interwoven throughout Vail and Beaver Creek’s history since Vail Mountain opened to the world over 50 years ago. The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships will be held in Vail and Beaver Creek during February 2-15, 2015. This marks the third time that the Vail Valley has hosted the international event and only the fourth time it has been held in the United States.

The official organizing committee has teamed up with Sierra Nevada Brewing Company to unveil a new beer brewed exclusively for 2015 World Championship race fans. Start House Session Ale will make its debut at the Evergreen Lodge’s Altitude Bar & Grill tapping party in Vail on Saturday, January 31^st from 5:30-7pm.

The Opening Ceremony will take place February 2^nd and feature fireworks, a light show, and live music. The free concert lineup over the two weeks will include Phillip Phillips, American Authors, CeeLo Green, and many others. Vail is set to serve as the official hub of the ceremonies and nightly events while Beaver Creek will host the majority of the races. The full competition and daily events are free to spectators. Overnight accommodations can be made at available luxury rentals in the vicinity.

The Championships are expected to showcase athletes from over 70 nations, with an estimated 1 billion television viewers worldwide and an entourage of about 1,500 members. The event will showcase five men’s and 5 women’s individual races, along with the Nation’s Team event featuring a parallel Giant Slalom format. The Closing Ceremony on February 15^th will represent “passing of the torch” to Vail’s sister city St. Moritz, Switzerland as they will be hosting the 2017 World Championships.
