ST. LOUIS - Jan. 29, 2015 - PRLog -- Derek “Deek” Diedricksen, host and designer for HGTV’s Tiny House Builders, will build an 8’x8’ micro cabin at the Home & Garden Show and present seminars about cost-cutting building and decorating. Deek is the former host for HGTV's Extreme Small Spaces, YouTube's Tiny Yellow House, author of “Humble Homes, Simple Shacks,” and the man behind Relaxshacks.com. Deek will be building the home with his brother, small house dweller and environmental toxicologist, Dustin "Dr. Demolition" Diedricksen. The two have built and designed for the History Channel, DIY Network and HGTV and have hosted several independent hands-on design workshops around the country. Deek and Dustin also built an off-grid cabin in the woods of Vermont at the ages of 18 and 22. Deek's work has appeared in the New York Times, Boston Globe, China Times, Seattle Times, UK Daily News, on NPR, CBS, ABC and beyond. His new book "Microshelters" will be published in September 2015 through Storey Press.

During the Home & Garden Show, Deek and Dustin will be doing a live build of a modern A-frame micro cabin, with the incorporation of salvaged materials. While only around 8' by 8' at its base, this little backyard cabin, shed, reading/writing retreat or art studio will feel much larger because of its height and its entirely-clear front facade, covered by Tuftex polycarbonate. Best yet, this easy-to-construct cabin, designed by Deek, can be completed for less than $1,000 and in just a couple of days. Built in cooperation with Refab. The micro cabin will be sold by silent auction at the Show, with the proceeds benefiting the Home Builders Charitable Foundation, the charitable arm of the Home Builders Association.

The brothers will also be presenting a seminar, Building and Decorating Your Home for a Heck of a Lot Less. In their seminar, Deek and Dustin will focus on their specialty - construction and décor with free, found, salvaged and repurposed materials. Attendees will be given a peek into Deek and Dustin’s past work and mindset, then they will learn new ideas, both whimsical and more straight-laced, of how free junk or cost-cutting measures can be incorporated into future projects. See them on the Lifestyle Stage, Booth 108, Friday and Saturday at 4:00 pm.
