WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - Jan. 22, 2015 - PRLog -- West Hollywood, January 6th, 2015--- --- ---Christopher Guy’s stunning West Hollywood showroom, 8900 Beverly Blvd, will host ‘Six Decades of Graphic Art and Film’ — a retrospective of the work of renowned Hollywood graphic designer, Arnold Schwartzman, opening on Thursday, February 19th, 2015, for one week from 10am-6pm daily. During the invitation-only opening event, he will be interviewed at 7pm by British author and lecturer Michael Webb.

The exhibition will document Schwartzman’s career, from his early days as an art student and designer for British TV, to his work with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and other iconic rock and pop acts. Since 1996, he has created key graphic elements for the Annual Academy Awards®, including commemorative posters, billboards, cinema trailers and printed programs for the Awards ceremony and Governors Ball.

Born in London, Schwartzman came to Hollywood in 1978 to work with noted filmmaker and graphic designer, Saul Bass. He was later appointed the Director of Design for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. In 2001, he was awarded the OBE by HM The Queen for his services to the British film industry in the USA, and in 2006 he was appointed a Royal Designer, RDI, by Britain’s Royal Society of Arts.

The film ‘Genocide’ – about the Holocaust, which Schwartzman produced and directed, received the 1981 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. He has also created video and graphic displays for the Museum of Tolerance and the Skirball Cultural Center, both in Los Angeles. He is the author of a number of books including ‘A Persistence of Vision: Arnold Schwartzman profiles his work in Graphic Design and Film’, covering the first 45 years of his distinguished and multifaceted career. The publication of his latest book, ‘Griffith Observatory: A Celebration of its Architectural Splendor’, coincides with the opening of the exhibition.

In 2014, he was invited to create the 20-foot high UN Peace Monument, located at the Korean War Memorial Museum in Seoul, South Korea (he had served in South Korea as a British soldier in the 1950s). It is formed out of the letters ‘UN’ and incorporates shrapnel from the demilitarized zone.

“I was delighted and honored to be invited by Christopher Guy Harrison to mount a retrospective exhibition at his West Hollywood showroom of my six decades of work in design and film,” said Schwartzman. Christopher Guy Harrison commented, “Arnold Schwartzman’s pioneering impact in the world of design is enormous, and we are proud to be recognizing and showcasing some of his finest work, appropriately here at our West Hollywood showroom.”
