PENSACOLA, Fla. - Jan. 18, 2015 - PRLog -- In the documentary, Ms. Winfrey honors 14 legends of the civil rights movement.  Dick Gregory was one of those legends honored. She noted the works of Dick Gregory as a comedian, civil rights legend, author of the book “Nigger” that has sold over 7 million copies, and the recent work by Gregory in the Gulf Coast Region due to the BP Oil Spill which occurred on April 23, 2010. Ms. Winfrey’s documentary showed the time Dick Gregory was incarcerated at the office of Ken Feinberg in Washington, DC. alongside Art Rocker, chairman of Operation People for Peace. The BP Oil spill devastated the entire gulf coast and inter coastal lands of the region. 100’s of  billions of dollars of seafood industry was lost, impacting jobs, causing illness and environment disasters which will impact the people, the land, and the water for years to come.   Dick Gregory joined with Operation People for Peace, and Art Rocker for the awareness campaign against BP.

Credits for the video documenting Gregory’s arrest for the poor and voiceless affected by BP’s Oil Spill were given to Operation People for Peace by Harpo Productions (on Ms. Winfrey’s Network and her Production Company).  Dick Gregory and Art Rocker demonstrated countless times all over the gulf coast, as well as met with members of the US House of Representatives and attended countless congressional hearings concerning BP and the spill.  Gregory and Rocker even went to BP’s Headquarters in London, England where he and Rocker were told to get out.  Dick Gregory and Art Rocker went to jail twice and demonstrated over 10- 15 times concerning this disaster. Recently, the Supreme Court has ruled that British Petroleum must pay thousands of claims, as a result of Art Rocker and Dick Gregory’s efforts; therefore, their efforts have come to an end. This fight was for 10,000 plus claimants including 100’s of black churches and small businesses and others who are typically classified as the underserved and the underrepresented.  Presently, there is a settlement underway for our group of claimants.
