Bear Claw Events Supports Second Harvest Food Bank

CHARLOTTE, NC – As part of the company’s on-going commitment to helping their community, the team from Bear Claw Events has been actively engaged this holiday season in supporting Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina (SHFBM).

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Jan. 16, 2015 - PRLog -- “This is an organization we feel really great about supporting,” said Matt, the interactive marketing firm’s director of operations.”When you’re blessed with good opportunities and prospering, it’s always important to remember that others are not as fortunate. SHFBM is dedicated to fighting hunger in the greater Charlotte area and farther into South Carolina.”

“In their service area alone, 18.4% of the population is living in poverty. That’s over 220,000 children and senior citizens. This is our most vulnerable population and we felt compelled to help them in some way,” he added

Matt cited that the organization is always in need of volunteers to assist with various tasks, such as sorting, inspecting, stocking, and boxing food and supplies. “They are always in need of more hands,” he said.

In addition to volunteers to perform manual tasks, food collection is always welcome by SHFBM. “Another great way to support is to host a food drive that will help replenish their supplies,” noted Matt. “While the holidays seem to bring out the best in people and therefore many donations of canned goods and other non-perishable items, we have to remember that hunger is not a once a year problem. It is a daily occurrence for many of these people. No one should ever have to worry about where his or her next meal will come from.”

Bear Claw Events Reaps Benefits of Team Building Through Volunteering

It is not just the organization that benefits from the volunteer activities, cites Matt. “There is tremendous team-building that takes place when we work together to support an important cause,” he said. “I’ve witnessed firsthand the bonds between team members that are formed and strengthened as a result of these opportunities.”

Matt explained that team volunteer programs are excellent for breaking down barriers and allowing team members to view one another in a different capacity. “When you’re dressed in casual clothes and hauling heavy boxes, you don’t see each other as managers and team members, or marketing specialists and support team,” he said. “Instead, you’re all just there to help. You’re taking your direction from the organization you’re helping, not each other. It’s a humbling experience, yet one from which we certainly grow in many ways.”
