CHICAGO - Jan. 14, 2015 - PRLog -- This gala dinner event honors leaders creating patient impact through their scientific, business and philanthropic achievements, and raises funds for the mission of Cures Within Reach, dedicated to improving patient quality and length of life through research repurposing existing drugs, devices and nutriceuticals. 2015 promises to be an exciting year for Cures Within Reach—in June, it will launch publicly the world’s first online, interactive platform dedicated to repurposing research (www.cureswithinreach.org/cureaccelerator).  The CureAccelerator platform was built with a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The BAM event will be held at VenueSIX10 in Chicago’s loop, in conjunction with the 4th Annual Drug Repurposing, Repositioning & Rescue Conference on May 27-28.  This conference highlights the latest developments in the fields of drug repositioning, repurposing and rescue and serves as a global meeting place for those engaged in efforts to further drug development through new means of collaborations, including patient advocacy efforts and industry/academic/government cooperation.

Chairing the BAM event will be James Robinson, President of Astellas Pharma US.  Astellas Pharma US will be a presenting sponsor for 2015.  “As members of the BioScience community, this event provides a great opportunity to come together and celebrate the ways in which we are all working toward improving patient lives.  The work of Cures Within Reach to find and fund research testing patient-focused repurposed therapies is inspiring – a mission that we all can get behind as members of the industry and as human beings,” James Robinson, President of Astellas Pharma US.

Featured Awardees include Dr. Richard DiMarchi, former Group Vice President at Eli Lilly, Cox Distinguished Professor of Biochemistry and Gill Chair in Biomolecular Sciences at Indiana University, and co-founder of Ambrx, Inc., Marcadia Biotech, Assembly and Calibrium Biotech.  Dr. DiMarchi is readily recognized for discovery and development of rDNAderived Humalog® (LisPro-human insulin).

More than 300 key industry influencers gathered last year to honor Dr. Norbert Riedel, CEO of Naurex, Inc. and former Baxter executive, and Drs James D. Surmeier and Tanya Simuni from Northwestern University.   Sponsors in 2014 included Takeda Pharmaceuticals, Baxter Pharmaceuticals, Horizon Pharmaceuticals, Marathon Pharmaceuticals, Accenture, Crealta Pharmaceuticals, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Roundtable Healthcare Partners and Edelman.

Cures Within Reach is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization working to improve patient quality and length of life through research testing repurposed treatments designed to be immediately incorporated into clinical practice.  Cures Within Reach has played a role in the development of 10 treatments in clinical use and is currently stewarding 24 medical research projects through its partner institutions across the country and around the world.

Tickets will be available February 1st at www.cureswithinreach.org/bam.  For sponsorship information, please contact Amy Conn.
