For one mom, sugar is so sweet she’ll kill for it

VOORHEES, N.J. - Jan. 12, 2015 - PRLog -- Lisa Shiroff has made it her mission to do whatever she could to help find a cure the disease that afflicts her daughter: type 1 diabetes. To that end, she’s donating all proceeds from her most recent book, a comedic mystery titled SHOW UP DEAD, to the JDRF, the world’s leading organization funding a cure for diabetes.

“I promised my daughter I would do whatever I could to help her deal with this disease,” Shiroff explained. And when her daughter replied with, “then help find a cure!” the writer did what she does best: she came up with a story.  Like Shiroff, the heroine of the book, Peri Milano, is a mother of a type 1 teen. The disease serves as a subplot as Peri juggles working her day job as a lifestyle manager for some of Philadelphia’s rich and almost famous while simultaneously solving the mystery of who killed one of her clients.

With Shiroff’s trademark humor, sweetness and control are recurring themes throughout the Philadelphia-based book. Both are also key elements in the management of diabetes: the disease causes the body to stop producing insulin, which is necessary for controlling the amount of glucose, or sugar, in the blood. And in a twist that cannot be revealed here, both sweetness and control are involved with the murder that takes place in the novel
