More than sixty paintings will be on exhibit. The show will run from February 7 - 14, 2015. The exhibition is free and open to the public. A native New Yorker, Sinai Mordecai Waxman earned an art degree at City College. In early 1950’s, he studied classic-realistic drawing and painting in Paris, at Academie de la Grande Chaumiere, Academie Julian, Ecole des Beaux Arts, and Fernand Leger Academie. Upon returning to the USA, he attended The Arts Students League, studied with Mark Rothko at Brooklyn College, and earned an M.A. and Ph.D. at New York University. He was N.Y. State Visiting Professor, during the 1950’s, and an N.Y.U. faculty member for a few years. Starting in the late 1960’s, he was Full-Professor of art and education at Hunter College, New York City. For 60 years he exhibited in galleries and continues today. The current oil and acrylic paintings are, in part, a re-visit to his French and American studies with realistic, impressionist and abstract artists; Fernand Leger, Elaine de Kooning, and Mark Rothko, as well as, countless visits to Monet’s Giverney and the artist studios and galleries of Montmatre and the Marais in Paris. I try to have my paintings laden with rich, inviting layers of color, texture and suggestive impressions. When seen, time-after-time, the paintings should offer delight and individualized discoveries to the viewer. End
