ROYERSFORD, Pa. - Jan. 7, 2015 - PRLog -- Now, more than ever, teens and young adults need mentors. In fact, a recent report from the Mentoring Effect found that young people who were at-risk for not completing high school but who had a mentor were 55 percent more likely to be enrolled in college than those who did not have a mentor. They were also:

•    81 percent more likely to report participating regularly in sports or extracurricular activities.

•    78 percent more likely to volunteer regularly in their communities.

•    And more than twice as likely to say they held a leadership position in a club or sports team.

Unfortunately, this same report found that one in three young people in our country will grow up without a mentor.

After reading statistics like these, Jason Griggs, president and chief executive officer of MaxOut Domestic Franchising and MaxOut Strength Systems, and Matt Cubbler, vice president and chief operating officer of MaxOut Domestic Franchising and MaxOut Strength Systems, knew they had to do something to help.

Already known for their outstanding strength and conditioning programs, thanks to the unique Barwis Methods MaxOut Tower on each piece of training equipment (the counter weight method delivers faster results than typical weight training by maximizing the eccentric or “negative” of a repetition), Griggs and Cubbler agreed that building the inner strength of its teen clients was just as important as developing their physical strength.

But to do it right, it would require research and a curriculum that could be easily taught to other strength coaches, both locally and throughout the country. These coaches would also serve as mentors in their local MaxOut locations.

Together, the two consulted the best experts in the fields of mentoring and leadership, to create a comprehensive MaxOut Leadership and Mentorship Program to coincide with their already successful strength training regimen. The MaxOut Leadership and Mentorship Program (LAMP) was created with one guiding principle in mind – to help kids identify within themselves their own personal strengths and weaknesses and then, with the help of the MaxOut staff, guide them down the path of accentuating those strengths while minimizing the exposure of their weaknesses.

“What we are doing at MaxOut in terms of mentoring is really unique,” said Cubbler.” “While there are excellent programs for mentoring out there, I couldn’t find one that had a structured program for building both the physical and mental components for building strength.  The results for those who have been through the early growth of this program have been outstanding.  We have worked with kids from all walks of life.  Athletes, band members, kids who were bullied, etc.  They have all found success in all aspects of their lives.  That is the thing I am most proud of and these kids are all like my own.”

Even the fitness facilities themselves have been redesigned to promote a sense of togetherness and comfort among its teen clientele. MaxOut Strength Studios actually encourages its clients to stay and “hang out” after their workouts. In fact, it has recently opened up dedicated space where the mentoring and leadership training process takes place.  It also has an area where they can do homework, mingle or just relax – creating a sense of community with one another.

"The MaxOut Strength Studio concept of building mind, body and soul of teens and young adults is an idea we knew would spread quickly.  In 2015 MaxOut Domestic Franchising is launching a national franchise campaign to bring our unique concept to communities everywhere, said Griggs. “When I see the amazing results in our young people, I think to myself, ‘we’ve made a difference, let’s do more of that!”
