Little Balloon Press publishes Homer the Little Stray CatLittle Balloon Press announces Homer the Little Stray Cat, a powerful children’s picture book by established New York City author Pamela Laskin and beautifully illustrated by Kirsi Tuomanen Hill, a New York-based artist and art teacher.
Homer is a precocious and perpetually dirty stray cat living on the city streets he calls home. One day an unexpected accident leads to the discovery of something he’s never had before; a loving family. Pamela conceived of the story after reflecting on the countless homeless cats around the area of Park Slope, Brooklyn. “What I want people to take away from this story is the importance of a home, a community and most importantly, love. It is the love of the children that keeps Homer in his home at the end,” Pamela explained. Homer the Little Stray Cat has received praise from noted author Suzanne Weyn. “Playful and engaging, Pam Laskin's story explores the healing power of kindness and connection. Kirsi Toumanen Hill's illustrations charm,” writes Suzanne. Novelist Caroline Bock also delivers high praise. “Pam Laskin's delightfully dramatic story of how an outdoor city cat finds a home and the special love of a little boy and girl will engage parents and young children alike. The illustrations are beautifully done … this is the kind of book to be re-read and cherished." Pamela L. Laskin is a Lecturer in the English Department and Director of The Poetry Outreach Center at City College, where she has taught composition and creative writing for over twenty-five years. Her published children’s books include A Wish Upon a Star (Magination Press); Historical Heroic Horses (McGraw-Hill); Kirsi Tuomanen Hill is a New York-based art teacher and freelance artist. She enjoys working on a range of visual projects at once, both to inform her teaching and to keep herself experimenting. Kirsi has a special love for illustration and repeatedly returns to it as a primary interest. She holds a BA in Art History from Johns Hopkins University, a Post-Bac in Studio Art from MICA, and an MA in Art Education from Teachers College, Columbia University.
