PHILADELPHIA - Feb. 5, 2015 - PRLog -- Local startup, Care Comes First® will provide its iCare Program™ technology to deliver a program to raise awareness of the fact that one in three women die of heart disease and stroke, and provide information as well as other resources about the associated risks, warning signs, and how it can be prevented.

“Even though my mother had a major heart attack which resulted in a triple bypass in 1998, and lived with a pacemaker for the last 10 years of her life, I had no idea that cardiovascular disease was the #1 cause of death among women”, says Care Comes First’s CEO, Ike Carpenter. “If it were not for the fact that I stopped by a booth at a recent “Go Red For Women’s” event, I would still be unaware of the issue.”

The misconception that cardiovascular disease is largely a male-dominated problem, is one of the challenges that health care providers face today.

“It is not unusual for people to be surprised when they learn that one in three women die from heart disease,” says Christina Crews, communications director for the American Heart Association.  “That is why we started Go Red For Women 10 years ago, to bring attention to this issue, and provide resources to help women and those who love them.”

Individuals will enroll in the program through people and organizations they trust.  The program will deliver focused topics via email and SMS, at the frequency requested by the enrollee.  Care Comes First’s platform ensures that, in addition to keeping enrollees connected with those that referred them to the program, it also provides opportunities for participants to share resources they have received, thereby providing growth opportunities for everyone.

“The American Heart Association’s mission to ‘build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke’ depends on connecting people at risk, with the information, tools, people, and organizations that can help,” continues Ms. Crews. “This new program does just that.”

“My dad, who was my troop’s scoutmaster when I was a boy, had to learn CPR in order to teach it to the troop.”  Carpenter continues, “none of us could ever imagine that he would apply that learning to save the love of his life, my mother, when she collapsed with her second heart attack in front of him in 2002. The paramedics said that he brought her back to life, I can’t help thinking that the gift of his teaching us all those years ago, came back to bless him.  I hope that this program can help others in similar fashion.”
