Heidrea for Heroes announces The Home Depot Foundation as project partner in Wareham renovation

PLYMOUTH and WAREHAM, MA, ISSUED JANUARY 5, 2015…Heidrea for Heroes (www.heidrea4heroes.org),  a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing resources and support to military men and women facing challenges and hurdles after transitioning back to civilian life, today announced that The Home Depot Foundation and the East Wareham, MA Home Depot have become major project partners for the rebuilding of a veteran’s home in Wareham, MA.

The Plymouth-based organization learned of a situation involving a Wareham, MA veteran whose house was severely damaged by flooding when the pipes burst last winter.  The damage included 2½ feet of water from the burst pipes, requiring major repairs and renovations to make it livable again. The veteran was able to find temporary housing in a nearby apartment provided by friends, Mike and Barbara Thomas, owners of M&D Bait & Tackle in Wareham, but the veteran needed financial support to restore his home to suitable condition.

Heidrea for Heroes learned of the situation and began reaching out to community partners to help in the quest. The Home Depot Foundation stepped up. The East Wareham store, located at 2994 Cranberry Highway in East Wareham, Massachusetts, quickly became the lead project partner with the donation and installation of siding, and then expanded their assistance by donating a significant amount of the interior work. The Brockton store also donated some of the plumbing supplies.

Jesse Brown, a co-founder at Heidrea for Heroes, said, “The Home Depot Foundation has stepped up in a big way to help this veteran. As this project continues, The Home Depot continues to show its support for this veteran and this rebuilding project. They are a true community hero and we are excited to partner with them.”

Joe Pratt, the E. Wareham Home Depot Store Manager, said “Since our first store opened in 1979, giving back has been a core value within The Home Depot. Our associates are committed to serving veterans, a cause dear to us since more than 35,000 of our own colleagues have served in the military. We are excited to be a part of this project in Wareham and look forward to the opportunity to serve those who have served us all.”

Estimates to rehab the house are in excess of $75,000, and Brown anticipates that The Home Depot’s collective contribution will exceed $35,000. The organization has also received support from a number of other independent local tradesmen who have donated services.
