By Design Furniture Midtown, Spiced Right Rib House, & Partners Transform Deserving Family’s Life

ATLANTA - Jan. 6, 2015 - PRLog -- Atlanta, GA - Hiring and firing, buying and selling, generating and maximizing profits … all necessary parts of doing business.  What’s not “necessary,” however, is giving back.  And when a company counts it part of its mission - even engaging outside entities that are of the same mind - to do so, it speaks to charitable heart and genuine disposition of appreciation of its leadership.

By Design Furniture Midtown, as part of the company’s vow to return some of the goodwill it receives from the community in which it does business, recently joined forces with Roswell, GA restaurant, Spiced Right Rib House, and a host of others to dramatically change the lives of a deserving family in desperate need of a reprieve from the indiscriminate intensity of life.  The idea, which aligned perfectly with the company’s philanthropic desires, was presented by SEMAJ Consulting and, without hesitation, By Design aimed its resources toward the target of changing the chosen family’s life at Christmas.

On Christmas Eve, agents of the company and its committed partners went well beyond putting just their money where their “hearts” are. The team actually descended upon the home of the previously homeless family - a mother and four children - chosen to receive the special Christmas gift, selflessly rolled up their sleeves and transformed conditions inside it from heart-wrenchingly dire to an environment of much-longed-for comfort, peace and hope. It was a display of the Christmas spirit that transcended what words can adequately convey.

Along with cleaning and making minor repairs (wiring, windows, doors), the home’s living room was filled with a complete set of brand new By Design furniture (sofa, chair, area rug, and coffee table) and a fully decorated Christmas tree.  Under the tree was placed toys, books and clothes collected from benevolent customers, friends and family at Toy Drives held by the organizers and sponsors of the extreme act of kindness.  Other needs of the family were also met, including beds being outfitted with new sheets and comforters, curtains being hung, new rugs being laid, and toiletries being supplied, and in keeping with the spirit of the blessing, the heart of the home, the kitchen, was also upgraded. The very grateful mother of four – whom was also provided with a pending job interview for the top of 2015 - was blessed with a new kitchen table christened by Spiced Right with a Christmas dinner that included turkey, ham, green beans, cornbread, mashed potatoes, pie’s and cookies, and a new hot plate to keep it all warm.

“Well, Hugh Keeter and I have always been into helping our community,” said Rob Holloway of Spiced Right.  “… Kristine West came to me and said can we do a toy drive here and I said ‘of course that's a great idea,’ and we made boxes and set it up.  We had lots of donations and I wanted to take it a step further, so I set up their Christmas dinner for them … people sometimes forget to pay it forward.“

The family’s journey from homelessness to finding shelter in a modest home in need of major upgrades to - with the help of By Design, Spiced Right, SEMAJ and all their partners - being at peace in a home that provided the comfort, safety and a beautiful Christmas a family that’s trying to survive in a harsh world deserves was a narrative that dreams are made of.

“Because every kid deserves Christmas.  They deserve to feel loved …” Holloway said.
