“The Evolving Understanding of Climate Risk & National Security: People, Not Polar Bears”

 
Jan. 5, 2015 - PRLog -- The public is invited to attend an Ambassadors’ Roundtable series “after work”presentation by Rear Admiral David Titley (Ret.) on “The Evolving Understanding of Climate Risk & National Security: People, Not Polar Bears”. This event will take place at the Stamford Yacht Club on January 14, 2015.

Dr. Titley is currently the Director of the Center for Solutions to Weather and Climate Risk at Penn State University. Previously, he served as a naval officer for 32 years. While serving in the Pentagon, he initiated and led the US Navy’s Task Force on Climate Change. After retiring from the Navy, he served as the Deputy Undersecretary of Commerce for Operations, the Chief Operating Officer position at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Titley has spoken across the country and throughout the world on the importance of climate change as it relates to National Security. He was invited to present on behalf of the Department of Defense at both Congressional Hearings and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) meetings from 2009 to 2011.

Dr. Titley holds a B.S. in meteorology from the Pennsylvania State University. He also holds an M.S. in meteorology and physical oceanography, and a Ph.D. in meteorology, both from the Naval Postgraduate School. In addition, he holds an honorary Doctorate from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.

The cost for the evening is free for AR series members, $30 for Forum members and $50 for the general public. The event, sponsored by General Re Insurance Corporation, will start at 5:30 P.M. with a cash bar and hors d’oeuvres. Presentation and Q & A will run from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.  Reservations and advance payment are required. Space is limited.
