CareMed Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. New Executive Chairman and Board of Directors Appointments

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y. - Jan. 5, 2015 - PRLog -- CareMed Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. (CareMed), a leading provider of specialty pharmacy, patient care coordination and limited distribution services to specialty practices, payers, and pharmacy benefit managers, today announced the appointment of national health care executives and leaders Mark Wagar and Ruben Jose King-Shaw, Jr. to its Board of Directors.  In addition, Mr. Wagar will serve as Executive Chairman of CareMed.

The Board of Directors is planning to add in the near future new committees, including a Compliance and Quality Committee to be chaired by Mr. King-Shaw, Jr.  “Ruben, and I look forward to adding value and providing our respective local, regional, and national expertise in managed care, strategic operations, governance, and health care reform to CareMed”, said Mark Wagar, incoming Executive Chairman of CareMed.

About Mark Wagar

Mr. Wagar is the former President and CEO of Empire BlueCross BlueShield, New York’s largest health insurer covering nearly 6 million people.  Currently, Mr. Wagar is President of Heritage Medical Systems, an affiliate of the Heritage Provider Network (HPN) that provides medical care for over 1M members.  In addition, Mr. Wagar is an Operating Partner at Enhanced Equity Funds—a healthcare focused private equity firm—with over $600MM in committed capital across two funds.  Mr. Wagar has held leadership positions at Caremark, CIGNA Healthcare, and provider owned managed care organizations, as well as roles in hospital management, physician practice management, and diagnostic services in market leading organizations based in Ohio, California, Texas, and New York.

About Ruben King-Shaw, Jr.

Ruben Jose King-Shaw, Jr., is the Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer at Mansa Capital, LLC, a healthcare private equity investment firm based in Boston, Massachusetts with offices in Miami and Dallas. Mansa Capital specializes in early growth stage companies in the healthcare service and healthcare information technology sectors.  Mr. King-Shaw, Jr. served on the Board of Directors of WellCare Health Plans, Inc. and Athenahealth .  Mr. King-Shaw, Jr. currently sits on the Board of Directors of many of the firm's portfolio investments, including Independent Living Systems, Inc. He remains active in public service and was appointed to the Obama Administration's Medicare's Program Advisory and Oversight Commission, which was charged with reforming how the Medicare program procures specific products and services using value-based strategies and establishing foundations for President Obama's healthcare reforms. He has extensive experience in healthcare policy, regulatory compliance, economics and finance, and served as Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in the George W. Bush Administration from 2001 through 2003. Prior to his service in the federal government, in 1998 Ruben was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush as Secretary of the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration, which is responsible for Florida's Medicaid programs, health quality assurance, facility licensure and managed care regulation activities. Ruben has been a member of the Cornell University Board of Trustees since 2011 and has been a Trustee of the University of Massachusetts since 2005.
