ST. LOUIS - Dec. 31, 2014 - PRLog -- At a time when many hospitals and medical practices are still working to implement Electronic Health Records and workflow, Curas finds many of its clients ahead of that curve, pushing their EHR to the next level to enhance patient care and practice efficiency. Fremont Family Care, a family practice in Fremont, Nebraska which Curas has supported through optimization of eClinicalWorks, electronic workflow, and custom reporting to summarize compliance measures, is the most recent Curas client to receive recognition for their use of EHR with the HIMSS Nicholas E. Davies Award of Excellence.

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) is a global organization whose mission is to “lead endeavors optimizing health engagement and care outcomes through information technology.” Since 1994, HIMSS has awarded the Nicholas E. Davies Award of Excellence to organizations who have utilized health information technology to substantially improve patient outcomes while achieving return on investment. Nominees are required to have achieved Stage 6 or Stage 7 on the HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model, key Meaningful Use milestones, and sustainable improvements in outcomes through the utilization of health IT for consideration. Scores of nominations were received for consideration in three categories: Ambulatory, Enterprise and Community Health Organization. Fremont Family Care was named the 2014 winner in the Ambulatory Awards category.

“Since we began working with Fremont Family Care in 2010, it quickly became clear that they were a practice that was committed to optimizing their use of eClinicalWorks to achieve better patient care and run their medical business in a more efficient manner,” said Num Pisutha-Arnond, Managing Partner at Curas. “They’ve ingrained this into their culture, where team members embrace the drive and desire to leverage their EMR for better outcomes. Curas is proud to be a part of the team helping to make this possible.”

Curas worked closely with Fremont Family Care to identify and design workflows, and implement eClinicalWorks modules and custom reports to document compliance levels for various initiatives. Perhaps the most important component Curas created is the detail behind the measures which isn’t provided through reporting alone. Those measures included Depression Screening, Diabetes BP, Diabetes Blood Sugar, and Pneumovax.

Through the technology and cultural change in care delivery, Fremont Family Care reports positive outcomes including lowered hospital readmissions of patients for pneumonia, improvement in delivery of preventive care to at-risk patients, increased number of diabetic patients who keep their HgbA1c under control.

“Fremont Family Care’s initiatives and optimization of eClinicalWorks has enabled them to leverage the system in a way that brings to life all the things that are possible through electronic health records,” said Pisutha-Arnond. “Patients are experiencing it, the practice benefits, and all are engaged in providing enhanced care – all of which is the ultimate vision for EHR.”
