International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association Announces 2014 Scholarship Award Winners

International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Assoc (IFWTWA) sponsors an annual competition for excellence in food, wine and travel journalism. The 2014 winners are Alex Palmer of Brooklyn, NY, and Susan Newman Manfull of Portsmouth, NH.

LOS ANGELES - Dec. 22, 2014 - PRLog -- Murrieta, CA – The International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association (IFWTWA) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the winners of the 2014 Food, Wine and Travel Writing Scholarship Awards.

Alex Palmer, of Brooklyn, NY,won the Scholarship Award in the Professional Journalism category for his story “Virginia is Making a Name for Itself as a Wine Destination,” published in the New York Daily News. This engaging wine travel story shines a spotlight on an up-and-coming American wine region. Mr. Palmer's website is www.alexpalmerwrites.com.

According to Allen Cox, IFWTWA 1st Vice President and Awards Committee Chair, “Mr. Palmer is a seasoned travel journalist whose contest entry rose to the top of some extremely tough competition in the Professional Journalism category.”

Susan Newman Manfull, of Portsmouth, NH, won the Scholarship Award in the Emerging Writer category for her story “With Record-Breaking Exports of Rosés to the U.S., Marcel Ott Comes to Mind,” originally posted on her blog Provence Wine Zine (http://www.provencewinezine.com/). Her well-researched story is both informative and entertaining, told with a keen eye focused on the fascinating history of premium rosé production in Provence.

“We received many outstanding entries in this year's competition,” says Cox. “Both winning entries best exemplify the journalistic excellence IFWTWA looks for in its members. I am thrilled that these two fine writers will become a part of our organization.”

Each winner receives a complimentary regular membership in IFWTWA for the 2015 calendar year, a cash prize, and social media and press release promotion about the award.
