Standard TV & Appliance Highlights Streaming Sound Systems from Sonos

Sonos, which was founded in 2002 and is headquartered in Santa Barbara Ca., has created a wireless sound system that can be controlled via a smartphone or tablet and play music in a variety of digital formats including streaming music from websites such as Pandora and Spotify, internet radio, and downloaded music stored on a local computer. Sonos speakers can be paired in a single space but are typically set up as stand-alone devices in each room where music will be played. The speakers throughout a household network communicate with each other for synchronized sound via a wireless mesh network known as “Sonosnet”, but can also be operated separately and play music from different sources.

Sonos offers 3 speaker models; Play:1, Play:3, and Play:5, with the number in each model representing the number of speakers and dedicated amps in each unit. Each speaker model is equipped with its own subwoofer to deliver deep and clear bass notes. Additional products include the Sonos PLAYBAR, which is designed with 9 speakers for superior sound for movies and gaming as well as for streaming music, as well as a stand-alone subwoofer and amplifier designed to support existing speakers or the Sonos system. All products are designed to follow three rules; operability from the sofa, access to huge libraries of music, and wireless installation.
