"Alvin Donovan" announces his new video Alvin Donovan & Cream Surfing Company
Also discusses why he loves surfing and his experiences worldwide
By: alvin donovan
Some other topics Alvin Donovan covers:
a) the reason he loves to surf alone- "it is easier to become part of the movement of the universe its a meditation in movement".
b) Like many big wave surfers Alvin Donovan has had quite a few brushes with death. "I remember one time I was surfing at Cactus and paddled from one surf
break to another over a very deep water trench and loked down and saw a great white that was over 20 feet long." he relates.
Another time "I was surfing an outer island in 30 foot waves all alone 1 mile out into the open sea. I had a horrible wipeout and got held under for 4 waves and dragged a long long way while being held under I knew I was done for and eventually gave up and prepared to meet my maker the only thing that saved me was a voice that said "what will your wife and new born baby do without you?" that gave me the inspiration to find my way back to the surface and survive."
c) He also explains why he loves to surf in contests. "One is you get to surf
with just 1 or 2 others at world class breaks. The other is the whole mateship
thing of getting to know other great surfers and to become friends even though
you are competing with them."
He also gives respect to one of the greatest surf companies in the world Cream Surfing and his mate Robbie Page former Pipeline Masters winner and all around great bloke.
"ya know- cream is not just a wax company, or a surf company. its the feeling of the soul you commune with when you catch your first wave, when you get your first barrel, it the feeling you get when your out the back in 10 meter swell all on your own, knowing you might die if you make one wrong move and not minding it a bit cause if you gotta go, you know your going out the right way. Its the love you feel when your with your mates and see them paddle into a monster wave, not knowing if you will ever see them again. when you are out there catching a wave you are joining with the movement of the universe, the wave that comes to you is a result of the simultaneous expansion and contraction of the universe. Cream philosophy is a way of life- it doesn't matter if your fit and experienced enough to ride jaws or chopu like laird or if yer a fat old bloke like me who can only just paddle straight in on a beachie and only just manage to stand up before you and your soft top make it to the sand. Cream and Page are the soul
of surfing. Much Love and Much Respect."
