Hair We Share It Feels Good To Do Good

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Dec. 17, 2014 - PRLog -- NEWS RELEASE

Kailey Haase of West Palm Beach, Fla., lost her hair when she was eight years old due to alopecia. Now 11, Kailey inspires people to do better and be better every day by being confident because of her difference, not in spite of it. Kailey is a vibrant, energetic awe-inspiring young lady with a passion for all things creative. She loves music, especially singing, and she loves to paint and write.

Her personality shines.

“Kailey is confident without hair, but she does like to wear wigs, and it seems none of them fit her properly,” says Kailey’s mother, Phyllis. She found a way to help when a young woman came in to FedEx, where Phyllis works, to have an unusual item shipped – her pony tail. She was sending it to Hair We Share, to be made into a wig for a friend. So Phyllis reached out to Hair We Share for her daughter.

Even though Kailey’s original hair was blonde, she would like a wig that looks like her mom’s hair – a dream that Hair We Share and Phyllis will soon make a reality: Phyllis saved a ponytail from a haircut she had a year ago, and is now getting it cut again. Two-thirds of Kailey’s wig will be made of her mother’s hair.

Donating hair is a simple act, but the impact can be profound, explains Suzanne Chimera, founder and head designer of Hair We Share. Thanks to social media, hair donors get the unique opportunity to see firsthand the difference they make in recipients’ lives. “We match wig recipients to ponytail donors through our Facebook page. The donors and recipients get to see each other,” says Chimera.  Ponytail donors are encouraged to seek sponsors for their ponytail donations by starting a fundraiser page at http://www.rootfunding.com/campaign/hair-we-share.

“Most of our recipients are children with alopecia. They often have been bullied in school and are emotionally fragile, and as they watch their campaign for hair donations grow, their faith in humanity becomes restored,” Chimera says. “It’s difficult to put into words the feeling the recipient has after a whole community of people come together to make them feel beautiful. Their self-confidence skyrockets -- they no longer need to hide from the world.” The experience is unforgettable, she says.

Hair We Share is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit that strives to ease the financial burden of purchasing a comfortable, natural-looking, custom wig for those who suffer medical hair loss due to chemotherapy, alopecia, brain surgery and other causes.
