Festival of Trees Announces 2014 “People’s Choice” Winners
By: Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida, Inc.
“The competition for the People’s Choice awards has become a big part of the Festival,” says Goodwill spokesperson Madison Mitchell. “Everyone always has a hard time picking their favorites. The tree designers definitely get into some friendly competition over it, too.”
Most coveted is the Best All-Around award, which this year was presented to long-time Festival participant CenturyLink. Its all-white “White Christmas” was decorated with beautiful crystal snowflakes, snowy owls, tree branches, and other natural winter decor. The tree came with a beautiful fireplace media console. The tree was also selected by Fort Myers Mayor Randy Henderson for the Mayor’s Choice Award.
The tree designed by Edgewood Academy was also a crowd favorite at the festival. The tree, titled “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” won the Most Traditional ribbon from festivalgoers and came with gift cards to area businesses as well as stays at hotels such at The Westin.
Winner of the Most Creative award was Health & Harmony Center’s “Delightful”
The award-winning trees, along with the 19 others displayed at the Festival, were auctioned off at the Tux & Trees Gala, a black-tie fundraiser for The Southwest Florida Goodwill Foundation.
The Festival of Trees is presented by FineMark National Bank & Trust, and with the assistance of sponsorships from The Home Depot, GCG Construction, Ryder, The News-Press, Grandeur, D’latinos, Azteca SWFL, Univision SWFL, Sunny 106, Parent & Child, Two Men and a Truck, Gulfcoast Coin & Jewelry, LLC, Trailways Camp founders Sharon & Jerry Miller, and Henderson, Franklin, Starens & Holt P.A., Priority Payments, and Bounce 4 Less.
