ABVP Certifies Veterinarian in Avian Practice

BEDFORD HILLS, N.Y. - Dec. 18, 2014 - PRLog -- NASHVILLE, TN -- Michelle Ravich, DVM, of the Veterinary Center for Birds & Exotics http://www.avianexoticsvet.com of Bedford Hills, NY, has been certified as a Diplomate by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) specializing in avian practice. She is now one of only 125 board-certified bird specialist in the world.

Dr. Ravich mastered a rigorous and demanding application process and certification examination in order to obtain Diplomate status. To qualify to sit for the extensive, two-day examination, Dr. Ravich had to complete a one-year internship and a two-year residency program studying avian (bird) medicine and surgery. In addition, to be allowed to sit for the exam, she also had to submit two case reports, references, descriptions of practice procedures, and professional education records to the ABVP and pass their review. This year's examination was given on October 29^th-30th in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Ravich is a graduate of the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed both her internship and residency at the Veterinary Center for Birds & Exotics, 709 Bedford Road, Bedford Hills, NY,and has practiced at there for three and a half years. She is now an associate veterinarian at the Veterinary Center.

The American Board of Veterinary Practitioners was established in 1978. It is one of twenty-one veterinary specialty groups accredited by a special committee of the American Board of Veterinary Specialties, a division of the American Veterinary Medical Association, to recognize excellence in clinical practice through the certification of species-oriented specialists.
