Follow on Google News | AllTheRooms Announces Top Searched Destinations for 2014Results are given from internal searches throughout the year, spanning over three million accommodations around the globe.
By: AllTheRooms "We thought it would be interesting to share with our users what the most popular places are to show the variety of interest," said Joseph DiTomaso, co-founder and CEO of AllTheRooms. "While some destinations remained stagnant year over year, we found some places surging in comparison to data from 2013, which shows the growing global reach of our site." AllTheRooms top U.S. destinations for 2014: 1. New York City As usual, the biggest city in the country reigned supreme with a third more searches than the next result. There were strong results every month of the year, but were not-so-surprisingly strong in early February with the Super Bowl playing just outside the city. 2. San Diego Last year San Diego was a distant twelfth on the list, but made serious ground during this year's peak summer months. There was a large spike in searches right before the Comic-Con Convention in July that brought it up to second place. 3. Las Vegas Always immensely popular, Sin City dropped from #2 in the list the previous year, but with nonstop nightlife and entertainment it was never going to leave the top five. Traffic was especially heavy before CES in January and the Las Vegas Marathon in November. 4. Orlando The top family destination in the country offers Disney World, Epcot Center, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld, and much more. The peak times for searches were for stays around spring break (March and April) and during the holiday season. 5. Austin As the most popular city in Texas, Austin was bound to show up somewhere in the list. Due to the massive popularity of South by Southwest in March and Austin City Limits Music Festival in October it made its way into the top five. 6. San Francisco The City by the Bay saw the most searches by far in July and August, but there was a spike in visits around the World Series in October and for last-minute bookings before the Bay to Breakers Race in May and Gay Pride Parade in June. 7. New Orleans Home to Bourbon Street, gumbo and great music, The Big Easy is always a premier draw no matter what time of year. However, there was an obvious demand for stays from February through May for Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest. 8. Chicago Due to its bustling feel and variety of activities around town, Chicago is the most popular city in the Midwest. There was a massive interest in stays during summer due to great weather and events like Lollapalooza and the Chicago Blues Festival. 9. Miami Beach While hurricane season sometimes hampers tourism to this Florida destination, there was a consistent amount of searches throughout 2014. The biggest interest came in later March, which coincided with the enormous Ultra Music Festival that took over the city. 10. Boston New England's favorite city fared well as a destination throughout the entire year, with an obvious bump during the spring and summer. There was great interest in stays for the Boston Marathon and around the time all the colleges in the area had their graduation commencements. AllTheRooms top international destinations for 2014: 1. London While Paris was the top European city the previous year, London took honors by a slim margin in 2014. April demand rose dramatically, which corresponded with the London Marathon, BNY Mellon Boat Race and St. George's Day events. 2. Paris Paris is generally known as the most visited city in the world, and there isn't a bad time to visit. While July held the most overall searches, there was a significant amount of visits surrounding October's Montmartre Wine Harvest and June's French Open. 3. Barcelona Spain's most popular city is a year-round tourist attraction. Las Ramblas was certainly packed with tourists throughout August due to Europe's holiday season, but there were spikes before Easter and during October's Barcelona Jazz Festival. 4. Berlin Berlin has become quite a popular city and rose to the top five in 2014. During the peak summer when the continent takes their vacation to the winter months when business thrives, Germany's capital is a strong destination regardless of the season. 5. Rome Summers are very popular for Italy's biggest city, when it's sunniest (and most pricey). From October on the city had a significant drop in visits, which means it's a perfect time to visit and skip all the crowds with still bearable weather. 6. Sydney People did a lot of searching throughout Australia this year, but the majority of them were looking for accommodations near the Opera House. From the fabulous beaches and beautiful views from the harbor, last summer was a perfect time to visit. 7. Dublin The weather in Ireland is consistently on the chilly side, but summer is when the crowds come with the hopes of finding a warm day. The city also saw a massive uptick for stays around St. Patrick's Day and the Dublin Fringe Festival. 8. Playa Del Carmen One of the most popular dive destinations on earth, this resort town offers perfect beaches, fantastic nightlife, and a bit more relaxing vibe than neighboring Cancun. This Mexico destination has been growing in popularity over the last few years. 9. Oslo Another first timer to the list, Norway's most populous city isn't just a hub for tourism but a draw for business throughout Europe. Due to this there is a consistent demand for accommodations, especially during the Nordic festival season. 10. Buenos Aires Rounding out the top 10 is the one of the biggest cities in South America. Their summer season saw almost double the searches of the previous year, but they had other upticks during Easter and the holiday season. "Practically half our audience is international, with a strong presence throughout Europe, South America and Asia" DiTomaso explains. "That allows us to have a more diverse type of results than other meta-search providers that focus on one area of the world." Leisure destinations mixed heavily into the results, with top vacation spots like Orlando and Las Vegas overtaking San Francisco and Chicago. London took home the top international city, beating Paris by just a few thousand results. Playa Del Carmen overtook Puerto Vallarta, which was the most popular Mexico destination in 2013. Lahaina/Kapalua beat Honolulu for the top Hawaii destination for the second year in a row. End
