Molly’s Suds Mom Develops Earth-Derived Oxygen Whitener, Putting Family Safety First
Families across the nation are at risk with the use of toxic cleaners, especially since the Federal Hazardous Substances Act does not require manufacturers to list all ingredients. Molly’s Suds develops truly safe household products in response.

There is a tragic but inspiring driver behind the naming and creation of the Molly’s Suds brand; Monica Leonard, founder, pursued the development of a truly safe household product line following the stillborn birth of her daughter, Molly, in 2005. Mother of four additional children, and formerly a pediatric nurse, Leonard delved into the controversial world of toxic chemicals allowed to be used in the production of commercial household products after happening upon some unnerving discoveries linked to stillbirth.
“I was absolutely shocked when I came across a study conducted by a European physician who discovered the presence of over 120 chemicals in newborn cord blood; these were common chemicals like additives and preservatives in our food, pesticides, and chemicals found in the average commercial household laundry and cleaning products,” said Leonard. “I felt like it was my responsibility to not only educate myself and others about these chemical dangers, but to go as far as developing safe formulations for people and the planet”, Leonard said.
Leonard continues to live up to this responsibility with her growing company’s newest addition to its product line. The concentrated Oxygen Whitener uses sodium percarbonate in addition to just three other earth-derived ingredients – sodium carbonate, citric acid and pure lemon essential oil – which aid in breaking down hard water minerals that create dingy, dull whites. It is safe on colors as well, and can be used in both regular washing machines and high efficiency machines that have a soak cycle.
Formulated without the use of ammonia, fillers, fragrance oils, bleach or chlorine, the whitener is just as effective as commercial and other natural brands, and works well for sensitive skin.
“Bleach used in laundry is a reactive chemical and is therefore an eye and lung irritant,” said Leonard. “It also pollutes the air within your home, and is especially dangerous around young children, as it can cause asthma to flare. And it doesn’t stop there - bleach releases dioxins into the environment that affect our planet’s marine life and birds”, Leonard said.
Molly’s Suds Oxygen Whitener is not only safe for every family member, with Molly’s tiny baby footprints on the package as a reminder, but is also a versatile household product to own; it can be used alone as a long soak, in a carpet machine, in regular wash as a booster and to clean commodes. Furthermore, the powder’s resealable packaging uses 70 percent less waste.
Molly’s Suds continues to expand its product line with zero compromise for ingredient integrity, and has no problem clearly disclosing its ingredients on its labeling. On the horizon is the development of safe and effective kitchen cleaners.
