By: The Bicycle Store Florham Park--Although the newest addition to Florham Park's full roster of retailers has been conducting business for nearly a month, The Bicycle Store's doors didn't officially open until last Saturday when the Ridgedale Avenue operation held its grand opening, complete with prize give-aways, a ribbon cutting ceremony and a visit from Mayor Mark Taylor. Attendees enjoyed food and refreshments from local caterers while browsing over the store's fully stocked showroom. "I'd say we were near capacity," said owner Sal Piccolo of the customer turnout for the day. Piccolo, who brought The Bicycle Store to Florham Park after vacating its former location in Madison says the move is accomplishing exactly what he'd hoped it would. "The customer traffic has been ten-fold what it was in Madison, even for this time of year, and a good fifty percent of the folks coming in are new comers," Piccolo said. "Our presence alone at this more visible location is giving the cycling bug to a lot of passers-by who would have never found us by accident at our old spot." The Bicycle's Store's holiday sales totals to date have been much higher than originally forecasted going into the move. Piccolo also attributes the higher-than- "Google only helps you get noticed by people who are already looking for bike shops. This spot is definitely inspiring people to get cycling related gifts or to get into cycling themselves when they weren't originally thinking that way. That's the feedback we've been getting." The clientele at the new location have also been selecting higher end merchandise overall and Piccolo has been stocking the store accordingly. "It's nice to get to show off the higher tech mountain and triathlon bikes and the latest in electronic shifting. One of the first questions we've been getting asked by the casual browsers is 'What's the most expensive bike on the floor?' Right now we have a demo bike with a price tag that's pushing eleven grand." Accessory sales are on the rise as well. Mr. Piccolo reports that most of the bicycles going out for Christmas are being outfitted with rear cargo racks, front baskets, safety lighting arrays and even smart-phone holders now that the devices can conveniently double as advanced cycling computers that cleanly integrate with the bicycles they're connected to. The Bicycle Store is situated in the center of The Shoppes at Florham Park alongside The Florham Park Diner, Cathy D's Hair Design, Speedy Mart and Apex Tiger's Martial Arts. "We really love all our new neighbors," Piccolo says, "they've all been so gracious and welcoming." The Bicycle Store is currently running a holiday sale and is open seven days a week now through Christmas Eve. They're located at 182 Ridgedale Avenue in Florham Park and can be reached at 973-377-6616. Visit their website at www.thebicyclestorenj.com. End
