Sully-Miller Contracting Co. Encourages Subcontractors to Register with DIR

BREA, Calif. - Dec. 11, 2014 - PRLog -- In June of 2014, the California Legislature passed Senate Bill 854 (SB854) which levied new regulations on contractors who perform work with public agencies. As a result, these funds are distributed to the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) to aid in the administrative duties that includes compliance monitoring and enforcement, determination and enforcement of prevailing wage rates, public works coverage determinations, and hearing enforcement appeals.

On July 1^st, 2014 the online registration portal to the DIR was opened to Public Works Contractors. SB854 requires that all contractors and subcontractors submitting bids to public agencies must be registered with the DIR by March 1^st, 2015. This also applies to public works projects that are awarded after April 1^st, 2015. Public agencies are required to notify contractors and subcontractors in the bid documentation and specifications. If you are not registered with the DIR, contractors and subcontractors will be subject to penalties after the mandatory date.

Once you are a registered public works contractor with the DIR, Sully-Miller Contracting Co. and its subcontractors will be required to submit their certified payroll online to the Labor Commission. Just recently, Sully-Miller Contracting Co. has registered with the DIR (Reg. #1000003664) and encourages all of their subcontractors wanting to do business with them to immediately register with the DIR as they are already beginning to see addendums to bid documentation. Please note that an annual-recurring, non-refundable registration fee of $300 fee is required. These regulations only apply to public works projects in the state of California and do not apply to private works projects.
