HIGHLAND, N.Y. - Dec. 11, 2014 - PRLog -- Wingate at Ulster (www.wingatehealthcare.com), Hudson  Valley’s leading skilled nursing and rehabilitation center, today announced they have been recognized through the American Health Care Association’s (AHCA) Quality Initiative Recognition Program for their dedication to safely reducing hospital readmissions. The Program selects skilled nursing facilities nationwide that attain quality initiative goals set forth by the Association as well as policymakers and providers.

Reducing hospital readmissions is an important quality measure because of the disruption it causes for patients, the increased risk for complications, infections and the likelihood of reduced functioning on return to the skilled nursing facility. In addition, many patients experience physical, emotional and psychological damage that makes recovery difficult. Preventing these events has been proven to improve the quality of life for patients as well as reduce overall healthcare costs.
