ARDSLEY, N.Y. - Dec. 11, 2014 - PRLog -- Thirteen-year-old Olivia, a talented teen who loves to sing, will spend December 12 living the life of a pop star. At Macy’s flagship Herald Square store in Manhattan, cameras will flash and crowds will gather around as she greets her fans and signs copies of her first CD.

Diagnosed as a toddler with recurrent brain cancer, Olivia’s world lit up when Make-A-Wish® Hudson Valley granted her wish. The South Fallsburg, Sullivan County resident’s journey to pop fame began in early November when she went to a New York City recording studio to cut her first album. After receiving pop star pampering, including a makeover and rocking new outfits, Olivia was professionally photographed for her album cover which will debut at Macy’s on National Believe Day, Friday, December 12.

Macy’s annual Believe campaign benefitting Make-A-Wish® raises money to help grant the wishes of children, like Olivia, with life-threatening medical conditions across the country. Believers of all ages are invited to drop off letters, stamped and addressed to Santa at the North Pole, at the special Santa Mail letterbox at any Macy’s store.  This year, letters can be also be posted online at www.macy.com/believe. For each letter received, Macy’s will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish, up to $1 million.

Olivia’s heartwarming story is one of more than 50 wish stories that will be granted on National Believe Day and featured on www.MacysBelieveTogether.com.  The site will share all the social media posts surrounding each wish in one place, including photos and videos on Twitter and Instagram.  Check out #OliviaNY on the site to follow Olivia’s pop star adventures.

“Throughout this experience, Olivia has had the thrill of her life come true,” said her mother, Mary. “She is so excited about what will happen on December 12 when she takes center stage in front of Macy’s large Believe Box. Her family and friends will be there to cheer her on and to join in this incredible day of sharing stories like hers that will help grant wishes for other children across the nation.”

Thomas Conklin, President of Make-A-Wish Hudson Valley, said:  “We again express gratitude to Macy’s for its support in raising money for our very worthy cause. Here in the Hudson Valley, we are working on 161 pending wishes. As the average cost of each wish ranges between $7,500 and $10,000, Macy’s Believe campaign will no doubt help us again bring hope, strength, and joy to youngsters like Olivia.”

“A wish come true empowers children to fight harder against their illness,” said Pat Clemency, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish Metro New York and Western New York.  “The vision of Make-A-Wish is to make every eligible child’s wish come true.  The generosity of Macy’s and their annual Believe campaign is helping make that vision a reality.”

About Make-A-Wish ® Hudson Valley

Make-A-Wish® grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Since its inception in 1986, the chapter has granted wishes to over 2,280 children in the communities it serves. Although the child is the main focus of the wish, Make-A-Wish involves the entire family so they can all enjoy a happy, carefree experience with no strings attached. This allows everyone in the family an opportunity to share in the child’s dream and to fully participate in a positive wish experience. The wish experience is a combined community effort involving volunteers, staff, donors and medical professionals to make each wish come true. The Chapter serves Delaware, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester counties. For more information about the Hudson Valley Chapter visit www.hudson.wish.org.
