Commissioned by BBC Learning, the House of Sound is forty minutes of fun, educational content aimed at primary aged children and explores the science of music and musical instruments.

Fran Scott and Greg Foot are the hosts of five short films that investigate sound and how we hear it, string instruments, brass, woodwind and drums. Each film begins with a piece of music drawn from the repertoire of Ten Pieces, the BBC initiative that encourages children to become creative with classical music.

In the House of Sound children can learn why different musical instruments make such a wide array of different noises and notes, and how to make their own instruments from things they can find at school or in the home - including a woodwind carrot.

The show’s director, and Lion Eyes’ Co founder, Martin Riley said: “We provided and managed set design and dressing, graphic design, crew and multi-camera equipment for the shoot at the Pie Factory, we also had a lot of  fun with slow motion. We’ve finished post production including 3D animation and music composition and audio dubbing at our custom built post production facility - The Den. It’s been a really interesting project and great fun for all the team to work on.”

Park Networks’ Mark Gorton said: “Lion Eyes is a great one-stop shop that has everything at a producer’s fingertips with some very talented people looking after different elements of a show like House of Sound. It’s all about fun and facts and playing with science and the Lion Eyes team can be relied on to pitch in their ideas.”

The House of Sound will air within the Learning Zone on BBC TWO, and from 12th of December onwards (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04v61pv), be available on iPlayer as a 40 minute piece, and as a collection of individual short films that can be streamed on demand.
