Bats in the Attic and Health Concerns Discussed in New Online Video

The IAQ Video Network releases another educational production about important environmental, health & safety (EHS) issues.

PHOENIX - Dec. 7, 2014 - PRLog -- Today, the IAQ Video Network and Cochrane & Associates announced the release of their latest educational video.  Their newest production discusses things people should know about histoplasmosis and other potential health concerns if they have bats living in their attic.

There are over a thousand species of bats worldwide and many can be found living near people.  Two basic requirements for the presence of bats are a place to forage and a place to roost.  Unfortunately, many homeowners have found that for some species of bats, a favorite place to roost is in their attic.  Although bats play a critical role in our ecosystem, their presence near humans has also been associated with disease.

“Bat guano can create unpleasant odors and cause damage to property,” said Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network. “It also supports a fungus known as Histoplasma that can cause histoplasmosis, a potentially severe infection.  Another health concern for people with bats living in their home is rabies as bats are one of the primary animals that transmit the viral disease. We hope this new video helps to shed some light on possible health concerns associated with bats living in people’s homes.”

This educational video was sponsored by a number of organizations and leading industry professionals that work to protect the public’s health. Sponsors include: EMSL Analytical, LA Testing, Clark Seif Clark, Zimmetry Environmental, Indoor Environmental Consultants, Maine Indoor Air Quality Council, 2015 Northeast IAQ & Energy Conference and Healthy Indoors magazine to name just a few.
