Follow on Google News | Karmic Release Ltd. Presents: This is HondurasSan Pedro Sula, Honduras is the most dangerous city on Earth. "This is Honduras" follows the Aid Workers who fight through the dangers of Earth's murder capital to keep the nation afloat. From the award winning company behind HBO DOC's Baghdad ER.
In 2011 San Pedro Sula, Honduras was named the most dangerous city in the world. With 20 murders every day in that city alone, Honduras became the most dangerous country on Earth outside of a warzone. That same year Karmic Release began work on This is Honduras. It is the story of the humanitarian aid workers who dedicated themselves to this place the rest of the world had forsaken. In 2009 Honduran President Manuel Zelaya was removed from power. Whenever the Organization of American States (OAS) suspects a democratically elected leader has been removed unconstitutionally, all international aid to that nation ceases. When this happened in Honduras, a loose coalition was formed by humanitarian groups that, before the coup, would have been able to operate independently. In the years that followed, Honduras solidified its place as the most dangerous “non-warring” Struggling through an interim government before finally electing Porfirio Lobo Sousa as Zelaya’s successor, Honduras spiraled deeper into madness than it had in decades. Yet it was this loose coalition of international aid workers that saw the Honduran people through the transition much more than any government body. This is Honduras is the story of the incredible lives lived in service of the most deadly place on earth, during its most unpredictable period in a lifetime. If you do a little research you’ll find any number of conspiracy theories and political opinions on President Zelaya’s ouster. Anything from his status as “drug kingpin” to U.S. involvement in his removal. We sat down with former President Zelaya as well as Juan Orlando Hernandez, the man who would be elected to Zelaya’s old seat in 2013. And though an integral part of our story, the backchannels behind Zelaya’s fall from power and Hernandez’s rise are not our focus. At its core This is Honduras is the story of a people fighting their way up from the third world’s deepest darkness. In a time where so much of our media attention is focused on tragedies in the Middle East, it is all too easy to forget that the most dangerous place on Earth is in North America. This past summer, the tumult Honduras has grown accustomed to began to spill out across the region, reaching all the way through the borders of the United States. The mass exodus of Honduran children this past July may be the only reason most of us have heard of the little country in a long time. Please, help us to change that. “There are poor boys in Cleveland you can help, there are unwed mothers [struggling] - Mark Krieger. Humanitarian Aid Worker. This is one of our most ambitions projects to date, and Karmic Release’s first venture without a partner in over a decade. We need your help to complete the story. The rough cut’s finished and the team is in place, but, without a little help from our friends, these incredible lives could go unrecognized forever. This is the most dangerous place on earth and it seems like none of us know that, this is the home of darkness and death, and sacrifice, and great hope. This is an incredible people.
