Air transfers bring travelers to Hoedspruit, a gateway to Greater Kruger Park. Here Kapama Private Game Reserve on 13,000 hectares has all the big game of Africa with 42 mammals and some 350 bird species. One of the highlights while staying at Kapama Buffalo Camp is a face-to-trunk interaction with a herd of rescued elephants. The famously leopard-rich Sabi Sands Reserve on 65,000 hectares is home later in the week. Guests lodge at Lion Sands River Lodge with an optional Sleep Out in one of Lion Sands exceptionally beautiful Treehouses (sleep out at additional cost). A flight whisks guests from the world of the wild to Cape Town and accommodations at a boutique hotel, More Quarters. The old and established suburbs of Gardens, Oranjezicht and Tamboerskloof merge into each other as they line the foothills of Table Mountain and Signal Hill. The area enjoys convenient proximity to the city, the Table Mountain Cableway, as well as the beaches. Narrow streets are lined by original Cape buildings, many restored and some now housing museums and art galleries, as well as lively sidewalk cafés and highly acclaimed restaurants. Known for its trendy and modern vibe, this area is wonderful to explore on foot, encompassing the historic parliament buildings, the Company Gardens and the unique boutiques of Kloof Street. On Nov. 9 and 10 the highlights of the Cape are revealed, including Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve via Chapman’s Peak, one of the world’s most breathtaking coastal drives, to the magic of where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet. The African Penguin breeding colony at Boulders Beach and Stellenbosch, a winegrowing and tasting center, are also included with an optional visit to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for many years. Following two days of touring the focus turns to the culinary heritage of the region with a local expert who knows all the hidden spots that represent the tastes of the rainbow nation. Some of the foods to be sampled are African Soul food (pap, samp & beans, a meat stew and vetkoek), Falooda (a traditional Muslim Rose Milkshake), a gourmet bunny chow to get a little taste of Indian Cuisine, coffee from one of the micro artisan coffee roasters in the city, and babotie pies (a modern take on the traditional Babotie dish which both the Cape Malay group and white Afrikaner group refer to as their traditional dish).
