Launch of New Accredited Online CME Module For Type 2 Diabetes

An online Continuing Medical Education (CME) activity launched today on the disease and medicines knowledge base, epgonline.org. Titled ‘The Role of Newer Therapies for Type 2 Diabetes in Combination with Insulin', the accredited CME module has been designed to support healthcare professionals (HCPs) globally in managing patients with this serious and growing condition.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus accounts for approximately 92% of all diagnosed and undiagnosed diabetes cases, and current estimates place the number of people with diabetes in Europe at 56.3 million – 8.5% of the adult population.1 With the age of patients at diagnosis steadily decreasing, this figure is expected to increase to 10.3% by 2035. Growing prevalence makes tackling Type 2 diabetes a key concern the world over.

It has been accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME), developed by a panel of leading European diabetes with support from medical communications agency Strategic Consultants and funded with an educational grand from Novo Nordisk.

Containing video, literature, case studies and interactive question and answers, the online CME activity provides a convenient source of valuable disease and management information. Educational objective focus on comorbidities and complications, as well as the complex factors that influence Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus management including the physical, emotional, social and financial aspects.

Upon successful completion of three CME modules, HCPs will be awarded 1 European credit (ECMEC) and achieve learning outcomes related to the limitations of current treatment algorithms for Type 2 Diabetes and the potential role of newer therapies to be used in combination with insulin. An independent faculty expert in the area of diabetes and endocrinology prepared each module.
