HAGIESTI, Romania - Nov. 28, 2014 - PRLog -- The Church gives us the most beautiful values, and it shows that it is opened to new. “New” means that (by the hard working and the perseverance of the local development agent, in partnership of West Association of Ialomiţa, Mr. Aelenei Peter and Miss Raluca Georgiana Dumitrescu, had the courage to take maximum financing Leader - 200,000 euros - a 100% grant), the Orthodox Christian Church of Hagiesti, Ialomita, Romania will come alive, again.

With the blessing of his Grace Vincentiu (Vincent), the Bishop of the Orthodox Christian Diocese of Slobozia and Calarasi, the Church of Hagiesti was able to be the first Church in Romania which received funds from “Axa IV Leader PNDR 2007-2013” (200,000 euros).

Brief history of Hagiesti Church:

St. Nicholas Church is located in Hagiesti, Sineşti, Ialomita county. Hagiesti village is historically documented since 1624. St. Nicholas Church was built in 1703 by Radu Dudescu, related to Cantacuzino and Băleni families, who was killed by the Turks in 1716, at the beginning of the reign of Nicholas Mavrocordatos, as it is shown on the original inscription above the porch entrance, in Cyrillic letters.

Around 1800, the church was repaired by Grigore Mihail Şuţu, mentioned in Wallachia census (1810) as a founder, to give a royal status to this church. There is a tomb of Grigore Mihail Şuţu, in the church.

In 1971, after a fire occurred due to a lightning strike, both towers of the church were completely destroyed. There has been some consolidation, and in 1976 the church was re-blessed by His Grace Roman Ialomiteanul, the Vicar of the Holy Archdiocese of Bucharest. In 1996 we have tried to start a restoration work with the care of Historical Monuments Commission; these works were limited however to scraping the bottom of the walls, but it was unfinished, so there was a humidity infiltration and the church was deteriorated. In 2000 year, a strong storm has tore the roof of the church.

So, it’s very important to reinforce and restore this old beautiful Romanian Orthodox Christian Church.
