This international training program was organized by the Global Training Initiative (GTI) which is part of NC State's Office of International Affairs, in conjunction with the NC State Executive Education division of the Poole College of Management. Co-instructors Martin Brossman and Karen Tiede worked with NCSU coordinator Daniel McNeill, Associate Director of the GTI, with the assistance of GT Freeman, Executive Education Program Director, to define the event for the benefit of the enthusiastic group.
The 13 participants were especially interested in applications of social media for attracting U.S. business to the M area. Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan province in southwest China, with a population of over 14 million; it is an active business and convention center where more than 250 Fortune 500 companies have branches.
“They wanted to understand how Social Media in America works and how it creates business results,” Martin Brossman explained. “ We were honored and excited to step up to the challenge of offering something that would not be oversimplified yet able to be clearly translated by our student interpreter, Hanqi Zhu. Our goal was to give them core concepts they could map onto social media in China as well as to show how major platforms function in the U.S.”
Martin Brossman and Karen Tiede also offer Social Media Management Certificate training through NC State Technology Training Solutions with the next series beginning in January 2015.
