Helena’s Small Business Saturday is November 29

You’ve heard of Black Friday and may have even braved the cold, dark and Turkey hangover to participate. You’ve probably also heard of Cyber Monday and pretended to work, while shopping for yourself and claiming it’s really Christmas shopping.

HELENA, Mont. - Nov. 25, 2014 - PRLog -- But have you heard of Small Business Saturday?

This is a phenomenon that is gaining notoriety across the country.  Small Business Saturday, created by American Express in 2010, encourages people to shop at local small businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  It was created to help support the businesses in your community and get more customers during a critical selling season.  This single day has grown into a powerful movement, and more people are taking part than ever before.

Mark your calendar.  This year’s event is Saturday, November 29.

“Small business is more than just commerce.  It is the heart of our community, owned and run by members of the community.  Money earned is reinvested by the owners or taken as salary and spent in other stores, helping fuel the local economy.  Small businesses also happen to employ a lot of local people,” according to Charlotte Snyder owner of Most Wanted Advertising in Helena.

Many businesses are participating in Small Business Saturday.

Cindy Antonio with Lattes & Sundaes, located at 503 Fuller is offering a $25 gift card for $20.  “We appreciate your shopping locally and supporting small businesses like ours,” Antonio remarked.

While you are downtown you can also stop by Big Sky Cycling & Fitness, located at 801 N Last Chance Gulch.  They are offering free coffee & donuts to shoppers! They will also have specials throughout the store including racks of close-out clothing, helmet specials, Chariot Trailers/jogger/strollers on sale, and GoPro Cameras on close-out.

Looking for a handcrafted gift.  LizE Designs ArtScapes, located at 330 Fuller Ave, Suite 1 will be featuring 15% off of handcrafted scarves & handbags, as well as registration for an end of the day drawing for two $20 gift certificates.  Enjoy a light holiday refreshment which will be served all day.

“Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others and that’s the passion of small business owners,” said Lance Doppler, with Advanced Spinal Fitness.

There are many opportunities to participate in addition to getting out and shopping locally that day.  You can promise to be there and invite people in your social media sphere to do the same.  You can also show you are there.  A picture is worth a lot to a small business.  Helena’s Most Wanted is encouraging everyone to share photos of yourself, family and friends shopping small.  Snap a photo in front of your favorite place and share it with #ShopHelena and you’ll be entered into a special drawing from now until December 15.  Winner to be announced December 16.
