Under Bhanu Choudhrie, Customers Bank Pays Tribute to the Veterans

WYOMISSING, Pa. - Nov. 21, 2014 - PRLog -- Customers Bank, a subsidiary of Customers Bancorp, Inc. headed by director Bhanu Choudhrie, held a Veterans Day benefit program to commemorate the sacrifices of the soldiers of the US military. The Bank, together with the Berks County area business community, hosted a benefit luncheon at the Crowne Plaza, Reading, which saw American war hero Marcus Luttrell as the keynote speaker.

The event saw an attendance of 540 guests and raised over $ 100,000 for Keystone Wounded Warriors, a non-profit organization in Eastern Pennsylvania that aims to honour the sacrifices of the US military personnel by extending support to them and their families.

“Our Veterans have fought for our freedom, and we hope that, by hosting this event and supporting Keystone Wounded Warriors, we are helping to provide them with the support they deserve”, said Dick Ehst, President and Chief Operating Officer of Customers Bank.

The benefit also saw retired Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell put out a first-person account of his mission in Afghanistan where all of his three mission partners lost their lives. His account was marked by strong reverence towards his fallen comrades. Marcus Luttrell is also the author of the best-selling Lone Survivor written in honour of his mission partners, for which he is also seeking a Hollywood adaptation.

Awarded the Navy Cross, Luttrell showed immense courage and determination in his mission to Afghanistan where he survived gunshots and a horrific fall, dredge on alone for almost seven miles, and waited several days before finally being rescued. Since then, Marcus has been engaged in rebuilding his life with his family and has also been making charities aimed at helping war veterans.

The event  which began by presentation of colours from students of Junior Reserves Officers Training Corps from Reading High School was concluded by presentations from Dick Ehst from Customers Bank and  Paul Spurgin, director of Keystone Wounded Warrior.
