Investing in Accessories: The Few, The Proud, The Opporutnity

NEW YORK - Nov. 21, 2014 - PRLog -- Midterm elections have come to a close and Americans have weighed in on some of the most critical decisions to be made; In particular we’re talking about the vote for marijuana legalization.  Several states including Alaska, Oregon and Washington, D.C. (despite Republican pushback) legalized marijuana for recreational use.  With the increasing demand for the herb itself comes a whole new wave of products and accessories to “enhance the user experience”.  From chewing gum to undo drymouth to a belt buckle that doubles as a discrete pipe, companies nationwide are scrambling to take their own piece of this budding industry.

Royght!, based in Southern California, is developing an accessory that turns any Starbucks venti cup into a water pipe. The gadget, which the company plans to retail for $19.95, fits snugly atop the standard-issue wax-paper cups used by takeout restaurants.  Buckle Puffer, a Cleveland-based upstart, is looking to market a stainless steel belt buckle that doubles as a marijuana pipe. Samson Mastroianni, a senior at John Carroll University in Cleveland and the company president, said the idea is to create a product that blends in with semi-formal male business attire. Another upstart is working on a line of chewing gum products to end “cottonmouth,” the parched throat feeling many people have after smoking marijuana!

What could be the best idea yet has been introduced by a group of businessmen looking to rid the stigma of the hippie stoner and bring more of an elegance to the act of smoking.  New York-based Rodawg is creating what CEO Josh Gordon called "a lifestyle brand for professional smokers." The company said it plans a full line of marijuana-themed accessories. Among Rodawg's offerings is a line of storage jars ‘more consistent with the packaging of high-class spirits.’ Gordon told HuffPost (, "The products within the industry are still tied to that hippie or stoner look. Ours have more of a cigar aficionado feel: it's 'Grey Goose meets John Varvatos.”

But up until this point, the only way to “invest” in these companies was to simply buy the product and contribute to their bottom line.  To build wealth in the marijuana industry, there are few options outside of investing in a growing facility, dispensary holding company, vapor company, or dime-a-dozen ‘consulting firm’…until now.  Acology Inc  has a product specifically built for the medical community that just so happens to have an incredible application in the marijuana world.  Its patented Medtainer storage container with built in grinder has been praised by users the world over for its built in grinder, one of a kind storage capabilities, and patented design.  The product can be found in more than 100 stores across the US and even in Guam. Medtainer has also been featured in major cannabis publications including 1000Watts, HotBox Magazine, Cannabis Now, Green Leaf, Hot Breath, Cannabis Culture Magazine, Skunk, Nuggetry Magazine, and even the Weed Street Journal. In addition to this, celebrities like Asher Roth and B-Real from Cypress Hill have been seen using the Medtainer.

The marijuana revolution is blanketing the US and now investors have been given an opportunity to take advantage of this new industry boom through investing in accessorizing the experience.  Through Acology Inc (ACOL), the market is now open for investment in something other than the actual plant. Recently as popular opinion has continued to favor marijuana’s legalization, a Republican senate seems to have had a backlash on marijuana stocks.  In lieu of this most recent trend, investors still seem bullish on the investment potential of the industry.  A Forbes article published last week explains that nearly two thirds of analysts favor the investment opportunity within this industry.  Furthermore as more states begin to legalize marijuana for either recreational or medical use, Forbes contributor Mark Fidelman states that the market for medical marijuana will reach critical mass at which point he predicts we will see political reform and enable easier access to the drug.

The marijuana space continues to interest investors as millions of dollars are exchanged every day in the stock market.   Some are comparing it to the 1930’s era when savvy market participants loaded up on stock that could potentially generate increased proceeds in anticipation to the end of prohibition.  For the Marijuana industry there will certainly be growing pains and the recent implementation of a Republican majority does have many on the fence as to what this means for the industry as a whole.  Through the entire process, the facts remain that the American public supports legalization efforts and the push for the passage of new laws continues nationwide.
