New Mobile/Desktop Game ‘Synonymy’ Challenges Players to Connect Word Pairs Through Synonyms

NEW YORK - Nov. 20, 2014 - PRLog -- Synonymy, a game that challenges players to connect words to each other through their synonyms, launched today for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android and PC/Windows devices on the iOS App Store (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/synonymy/id924648807?ls=1&mt=8), Mac App Store (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/synonymy/id925802403?ls=1&mt=12) and Google Play store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.com.jarvisfilms.synonomy).

Created by first-time, independent game developer Christopher Cinq-Mars Jarvis, Synonymy shows that there exists at least one path between any one word and any other through synonyms.

The game begins by presenting players with a ‘goal word’ and its definition. From there, they are given a ‘start word’, along with that start word’s synonyms. When a player chooses one of these synonyms, it replaces the main word, and the synonyms of the new word are revealed. To finish a game, players are challenged to arrive at the goal word as expeditiously and ergonomically as possible. “What intrigued me about the concept was forging a path between two words that are wholly unrelated, but in some grander sense interconnected through the relativism of language," said Jarvis. "Being able to traverse and unite the more than 60 million combinations of start and end words is a liberating testament to the interdependency of words — as well as a whole lot of fun!”

The game’s tutorial is narrated by Dr. Richard Dawkins, an evolutionary biologist and best-selling author whose writing helped to inspire the notion of the game. All profits from the game will go to charitable, education-based foundations.
