Gracie Gym Texas to Host Defense Classes as Fundraiser for Christina Morris
When a person disappears, the first thought is self defense. Thus the reason for the FREE seminar series being offered by Gracie Gym Texas.

Teaching self-defense is the programs focused on, through Gracie Gym Texas. Christina Morris was last seen around 4:00am August 30, 2014 in the parking garage at the Shops of Legacy in Plano, TX. In an affluent area, you do not expect or anticipate a person to disappear, but this is what happened to Christina. Whether it was a person she knew or a stranger, self-defense may have helped her to defend herself.
Kyvia Gracie, owner of Gracie Gym Texas says, “If we can help just one girl with a tip she may get from our free seminar, then these seminars were all worth it. I live at Shops of Legacy, so Christina’s story really hit home for me. We want to help raise community awareness and help Christina’s family in any way we can. We will be selling the “Find Christina” items at our gym during this time as well to continue to fund the search. We’re donating the cost of registration as well, if someone signs up for classes during the seminar. My family (Gracie) founded this now popular martial called Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. But at the root of the martial art, is that techniques we teach a smaller person, to defend against a much larger opponent. ”
Christina’s family is doing everything possible to keep her name in the media, keep the Police searching for the person(s) who had anything to do with her disappearance and help other young ladies to defend themselves should they find themselves in a similar situation. The Christina Morris Fundraiser will be held Saturday, November 15, 2014, 3:00-4:00pm, with demonstrations and protection tips from Gracie Gym Texas and Law Enforcement. This session will be conducted by Master 6th degree Brazilian jiu-jitsu Black Belt with experience in training special forces and police. Come and learn tips and techniques to stay safe, protect yourself and be aware of your surroundings as you will be out more with holiday shopping and parties.
Gracie Gym Texas will host a series of awareness and self-defense classes to help the public during this holiday season. The first of the series was held Friday, November 14, 2014, 10:30 – 11:30am. To see the full schedule, visit Gracie Gym Plano Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/
Tammy Swetnam, a long time participant and passionate about self defense, especially for women says, “The training at Gracie Gym in self-defense has given me a better sense of better awareness, as well as confidence. Not like I’m going to go challenge some guy on the streets! But I feel like I have more now to defend myself with. And it’s a LOT of fun as well as very challenging physically to do the training. We have a sense of camaraderie with the girls I train with. It’s unlike any other workout I’ve ever done, in that it also works the mind. When you train, you are working thru move, and countermove, so it’s like a mental chess game. You’re always thinking! From here, what can I do?”
