Follow on Google News | Wells Bring Hope Board Member Gil Garcetti Appointed Cultural Ambassador To UNESCO-IHEThe United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organization selects Garcetti to help address water management issues globally.
By: Wells Bring Hope UNESCO-IHE recognizes global challenges such as poverty, climate change, and public health require a strong foundation in proper water management practices and education. Based in the Netherlands, the prestigious institute has provided postgraduate educations to more than 14,500 water professionals from over 160 countries. UNESCO- As Cultural Ambassador to UNESCO-IHE, Mr. Garcetti’s duties will include; raising awareness for relevant water development issues, assisting in fundraising for fellowships, participating in UNESCO-IHE events, and visiting projects in the field. Mr. Garcetti was the inspiration for the founding of Wells Bring Hope in 2008 and has been closely involved with the nonprofit from the beginning. To date, Wells Bring Hope has raised over $2,000,000 and funded 305 safe water wells in Niger, West Africa. According to the 2013 UN Development Index Niger is the poorest country in the world and one of many countries where contaminated water kills innocent victims, most often infants and young children. “It is with great honor that I accept the position of Cultural Ambassador to UNESCO-IHE.
