Yard School of Art Winter Registration opens November 24

MONTCLAIR, N.J. - Nov. 13, 2014 - PRLog -- The Yard School of Art at the Montclair Art Museum (MAM) is offering a dynamic winter semester, including a film series in partnership with the Montclair Film Festival. Winter registration opens November 24 for Museum members and December 1 for nonmembers. Classes are offered for children, teens, and adults in a variety of media, including in the Ceramics Studio, the only resource of its kind at a Museum in NJ, and the Digital Media Lab. One- or two-day workshops focus on honing a particular skill or providing introductory insight into a particular medium, while ten-week courses offer a wide scope of topics for all skill levels, from beginner to professional. This winter the Yard School of Art, in partnership with the Montclair Film Festival, is also presenting a special film series inspired by MAM’s forthcoming exhibition Come as You Are: Art of the 1990s. The 1990s saw the explosion of independent cinema in America, with artists of all stripes taking to filmmaking as a way of telling new stories. The Come as You Are: Films of the 90s series focuses on diverse, engaging films that framed the era, launched the careers of important new artists, and defined the 90s as a decade of artistic exploration that endures well into the 21st century. Six films will be featured, including Reality Bites (1994), Basquiat (1996), and Jackie Brown (1997). Tickets can be purchased per film or in a package for all six films; tickets are available on the Montclair Film Festival website, montclairfilmfest.org, starting December 1 or onsite at MAM on each screening date starting at 6 p.m. All tickets include access to the Museum’s galleries to view Come as You Are: Art of the 1990s on the day of the program.
